Topic:  Dive Deep into .NET 3.5, C# 3.0 & VS 2008 with the Gurus
C# 3.0 introduces a number of new language features such as query expressions, lambda expressions, extension methods, automatically implemented properties, local type inference and more. These are all features that can really improve the quality of your code. They also give you new ways of doing things wrong. This talk focuses on both the good and the bad: how to use and how not to use the new features of C#. Each feature will be introduced with a small example, and you should be able to follow the talk even if you are not already familiar with the new language constructs

Charlie CalvertBio:  “Explore the essential C# 3.0 technologies that establish LINQ as a unique and important new tool for developers who want to query data. The new language features found in C# 3.0 will be explored. These include automatic properties, object initializers, collection initializers, and type inference. By examining these features, and by looking at a series of code samples, attendees will learn how C# 3.0 was designed to enable LINQ as a core technology. You will learn that C# 3.0 enables LINQ as an integrated, unitive, declarative, hierarchical, extensible, transformative, and composable tool for developers. Other topics covered in the talk include deferred execution, lambda expressions, extension methods, expression trees and the IQueryable<T> and IEnumerable<T> interfaces. The goal of the talk is to give developers a practical understanding of C# 3.0 and LINQ, and to show how it can be used to improve our development process.”

Lisa FeigenbaumLisa's Talk:  In this talk; we'll show how to turn yourself into a Visual Studio 2008 guru with the new language and IDE features.  Tips and tricks will include how to maximize your VB IntelliSense experience, leverage Refactoring features, and improve the performance of your query and XML code.  We'll explore integrated XML, and show how to navigate XML gotchas and express what you wish in fewer lines of code.  With respect to LINQ we'll go deep into best practices, pitfalls to avoid, and answers to most frequently asked questions.

Lisa's Bio:  Lisa Feigenbaum is the program manager for the Visual Basic Editor and Debugger.  She has been a member of the Visual Basic Team since 2004.  Her team is responsible for features such as intelliSense, error correction, edit-and-continue, and code snippets.  You can find Lisa at various US and international conferences and user groups, watch her on Channel9 webcasts, or read her posts on the VB team blog.  Before joining Microsoft, she earned an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University.
